Trans-Am Title Up for Grabs

The battle for the 2018 Performance Wheels Australian Trans-Am Series title will heat up this weekend at Lakeside Park for the fifth and penultimate round of the championship, as part of the Lakeside 300.

Two-time Australian Trans-Am champion John English claimed his first round win of the year at round four at the Lakeside Classic. Alwyn Bishop (Ford Mustang) netted some handy points across the weekend to take the sportsman round win, while Tricia Chant (Ford Mustang) secured her second consecutive 5 Litre class victory on the trot, with two wins, a second and a third placing,

English was the fourth different round winner from as many rounds this year, with Trophy Series competitors Anthony Tenkate (Ford Mustang), Brett Curran (Ford Mustang) and Russell Wright (Ford Mustang) also enjoying round wins.

As we head into the final two rounds of the year, all three class titles are up for grabs. Tenkate (343 points) and English (315 points) will duke it out for Trophy Series and outright honours, Bishop (391 points), Martin O’Kane (Chev Camaro - 228 points) and Shane Wilson (Ford Mustang -  155 points) will fight it out in the Sportsman Series, while former 5 Litre champion Mike Collins (Ford Mustang - 276 points) holds a narrow lead in the class standings over Chant (257 points), with Len Balme (Mercury Cougar - 186 points) still in contention for the title.

the 12-car grid for this weekend includes, the return of New Zealand Tony Rutherford as well as Sydneysider Chris La Rosa, the debut of Lawrie Densley's 1967 Ford Mustang and the return of 5-Litre competitors Ron Prefontaine and potentially Gareth Jones.

The Performance Wheels Australian Trans-Am series are set to do battle over four races over the weekend.
