Trans-Am Set for Season Finale

The Performance Wheels Australian Trans-Am series has reached Grand Final weekend. An eleven-car field will take to the grid at this weekend’s Ipswich Classic, at Queensland Raceway, for a round that was originally scheduled for July, but a lack of entries forced the postponement of, what was scheduled to be the fourth round of the season, and meant the season would instead conclude at the Ipswich Classic in November, instead of the Lakeside 300 in September. On that final weekend in September, John English claimed round honours, winning three of the four races, ahead of Anthony Tenkate, who was victorious in the final race of the round. It’s Tenkate who leads both the outright championship, and the Trophy class coming into this final round, in what will be a two-way fight for title supremacy, but it is a long shot for John English, who trails by 29 in the class fight, and 22 in the outright battle. With the dropped-round points system in effect, it is still anyone's game as Anthony Tenkate aims for his first Australian Trans-Am Championship, while English chases his third. The sportsman class is a dead-rubber this weekend – Alwyn Bishop already has that title secured, with a 246-point advantage over his nearest competition, Martin O’Kane, who will line up this weekend, as will Chris La Rosa and Ron Prefontaine.Logan young-gun Sean Evans will be on double-duty this weekend, as the former karter makes his Trans-Am debut in Tony Rutherford’s Ford Mustang Trans-Am for the weekend, and then teams up with Ryan O’Sullivan for Sunday’s 200km Hyundai Excel endurance race.In the 5 Litre Classic Class, 63 points is the buffer that Mike Collins enjoys over Patricia Chant coming into this final round, meaning that Collins will secure the title on Saturday afternoon, should he finish both races. Gareth Jones returns to the track this weekend to add further spice to the 5 Litre fight. It’s Firebird versus Mustang for the title, in the Performance Wheels Australian Trans-Am Series Grand Finale at Queensland Raceway, which will be contested over four 8-lap races this weekend! For the latest Australian Trans-Am news visit www.australiantransam.com.au, ‘Like’ Australian Trans-Am on Facebook and ‘Follow’ @AusTransAm on Twitter for updates as they come across the weekend.
