Return of the exciting split grid format for round 2, race 2

Race 2 was a return to the exciting split grid format. This format has the less powerful 5 Litre cars starting approx. 30 seconds ahead of the Outright cars creating some great entertainment for the drivers and fans alike as the Outright cars catch and attempt to work their way past the 5 Litre cars.

The split grid didn't disappoint!

There was action from the start with Sean Evans in the no.4 Mustang getting the jump on the no.21 Mustang of Ron Prefontaine. Evans did all he could to keep the no.21 Mustang behind him but Prefontaine was just too strong passing Evans to finish 4th outright, Evans 5th. Evans expressing after the race that he is thoroughly enjoying the on track battles with Prefontaine.

John English no.11 and Ian Palmer no.20 continued their battle up the front with Palmer keeping the pressure on all the way to the flag. English taking the win in the no.11 Firebird with Ian Palmer in the no.20 Firebird hot on his tail. Anthony Tenkate in the no.69 Mustang rounded out the top 3 with another solid performance.

Chris LaRosa no.3 Mustang, Harry Charalambous no.33 Mustang and Dan Fleming in the no.29 Mustang all retiring from the race with various issues. Of the 3 only LaRosa in the no.3 Mustang would make the start of race 3.
